I am a Licensed Stationary Engineer in Omaha, Nebraska. I live in a 'burb called Papillion.

I operate building systems including boilers, chillers, air handlers, and all the software to run a building as efficiently as possible. Basically, a jack of all trades. Electrical, plumbing...

Brian

And wifey is a BSN RN BC RACC

I'm a DoD contractor currently working as a Mission Planning Site Support Rep to the USAF. The job is ok as I have 8 years military (6 USMC, 2 USA) and like still being able to work with them, but sometimes having to babysit fighter pilots can be tedious, the money could be better and this area royally sucks. The company I work for through the contract is good but this area seems to suck the life out of everyone.

My education is in computer graphics with a bit of Interactive Simulation Programing (i.e. Computer Game Design) but everyone in that market expects you to apprentice for years and I have a wife and daughter to support so I moved on and got back to what I know (the DoD).

I'd like to go back to school to add some Engineering to my background and move in-house with one of the big boys (Lockheed, 3M, Honeywell, etc).

My wife (who is also a former Marine) is going to school to become a RN and wants to work in a NIC Unit. It'll be nice to finally have 2 incomes...

So interesting to see Outback owners coming from a wide spectrum of background.

I have always been in Manufacturing Operations Management and have manufactured several different product from Canned tuna, canned sardines, fish meal and corrugated boxes.

Lately, I have been building rail cars. My current job has transferred us from Vancouver, BC to Kingston, ON to Plattsburgh, NY and now to Pittsburgh, PA (all in a matter of 7years). I built the Millenium cars for Vancouver, the Las Vegas Monorail cars, the new cars for New York's Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and the Metro North Railway (MNR). My current projects include the conversion of the Madrid Metro trains from manually driven trains to fully automatic, computer driven trains, the Beijing Airport People Mover (for the 2008 Summer Olympics), the New Denver Airport People Mover and soon, Tampa, the Miami Downtown People Movers and the extension of the Las Vegas Airport People Movers. Quite a good company to work for, as they take care of their employees well.

I drive.

Well, ok, technically they pay me to do in-home service work on water treatment systems. (Water softeners, reverse-osmosis filtration, iron filters, acid neutralizers, that type of stuff) But, with a coverage area that includes all of Pennsylvania, and a little of surrounding areas, it feels like I drive for a living, and stop and fix people's systems to break up the drive. It's a minimum of 1000 miles a week, usually a little more. To give an idea, my (barely) 3 year old work van will hit 200,000 miles probably 3-4 weeks from today.

In my first career I was a pilot in the Canadian Airforce. I've been a software engineer for the past 12 years and working as a system architect for the last 8. I plan to retire in 2 years at age 49

The current title is "Senior Manager, Systems." I'm basically a jack-of-all-trades IT guy for a company that does data warehousing and data analysis. It's not a bad job... I get to try and do just about everything IT related, have a ton of hardware and software to manage, and its a **** of a lot easier than the previous career... Executive Chef.
