Default change display of US mile to km?

Hi

I got a 2011 outback in USA. I am wondering if we can change the display of mile to km and change temperature of F to degree C?

Not without going to significant expense. The instrument panel (where the speedometer/odometer is located) and the multi-information display (where the mpg etc is displayed) would have to be changed. Perhaps other programmed devices as well.

(This question has been asked here a number of times in the past year or so.)

We took our Subaru outback into a shop in Canada to have a remote starter put in, it went in with the odometer reading in miles and when we got it back it is now in kilometers, sofar nobody can figure out how to change it back to miles. Any help?

Here's an idea:
Add a digital display and set THAT to km/hr, and just leave the original speedometer as is.

(- if/when I get an Outback from the US, that's what I'll look into doing.)

Think of it as a link to history. The mile, a thousand Roman paces, Fahrenheit, arm pit, ammonia brine and close enough measurement. Proof that America was an empire and like all great empires believes it does not have to change with those nations it considers lesser. Hey at least the steering wheel is on the correct side!

But the fact that a software update done in Canada changed the units suggests that the dealership could have the solution to archaic units being used in a 21st century car. Now if only you could get a dealership to help you out.

Let us know if you find one.

In the meantime I use the GPS. It doesn't notice the difference between the diameter of winter and summer tires.
