Windshield replacement cost?

Guys,

Anyone have a rough idea how much it costs to replace the front windshield on a 08 Outback. It has the heated wiper zone. Mine cracked the whole width across on a recent trip in the mountains.

Thx in advance.

Safelite

Give Safelite a call. They can give you a quote. Will come to your house for installation and repair. Convenient and good value.

I don't agree with your statement on good value. I had a raisin-sized crack on my windshield and I went to two places to get quotes for a repair. Safelite wanted $80 and Speedy glass wanted $25. Needless to say I went with Speedy Glass. The repair was done in a professional manner and the crack has completely disappeared.

I was chatting with the Speedy Glass technician and he told me that my windshield would cost $200 to replace, labor included. I don't know if he realized that mine had the heating element.

I'm very happy with the price and work done from Speedy Glass. Their website is http://www.speedyglass.com/. I would suggest that you call the local store and not go through a national operator. The national operator may quote you a higher price since someone has to pay for the operator. FYI- When I called Safelite my quote was handled by an operator. My quote from Speedy Glass was given to me by the technician that actually did the work. Good luck.

Somewhat related question on a 05 Subaru Outback XT.

Dealership is quoting me something like $670 +tax for a new windshield, Safelite is quoting me $271 +tax on a new windshield, both of course, not under my insurance....

I presume that if I go with safelite or any of those non-dealership autoglass replacement companies, I will basically lose the heated windshield wiper function. Frankly, I've hardly used it anyway here in NJ, global warming and all that so that is not a big deal. I was just unsure when I looked at safelite's free online quote feature where it asked me if I had heated seats and I tried both and the one difference is the heated wiper option. Interestingly enough, it was cheaper when I said I had heated seats vrs when i said I didn't....

I read somewhere that new Outback's use a laminated glass for the windshield. You may want to check and verify that's what you're getting if that's the OEM windshield.

It's supposed to cut down on the noise.

Safelite quoted me $274 for complete windshield with Heated Wiper Zone and Blue Sun Strip. Comes with warranty also.

Great deal imho. I am getting it done on Friday.

Thx for everyone's advice on this.

Tinted Windshield

We did our windshield with Safelite AutoGlass as well, good service. Nice to have a tinted windshield too.
