Hello guys and gals! I've been lurking on your forum for a few weeks now and finally decided to create an account. :grin2:
Here's the basic rundown of what I'm coming to you all with:
My family has been a Chrysler Group (now Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) family through and through - my stepdad works at the Jeep factory in Toledo where they build the Wrangler and Cherokee. As such, we've always driven Chrysler vehicles. My stepdad used to own a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo... but then he got T-boned by a great big Ford F-250 on his way to work one day back in July 2010, and that was the end of Jeep #1.
So, he turned around and bought a brand new 2010 Dodge Challenger V6. We already have 112,000 miles on it (we drive A LOT).
My mom has always driven her 2003 Ford Taurus SES since she bought it in 2006, but since around 2012 has driven a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8 my stepdad bought.
Well, we (my Mom and I) are getting tired of our domestics. Her Taurus is completely rusted (you'd flip at the photos I have of the undercarriage), the Jeep breaks every time you bat an eyelash (alternator, starter, battery, tie rods and drag links in the past 2 months) and the Challenger gets stuck a lot because it's so low and we're out in the country where there aren't plows.
I've always liked Subarus, I discovered them via all the WRX STI rallycross stuff. I considered buying a 2007-2009 Legacy as my first car (I'm newly licensed), but instead bought a BMW M3.
I discovered the major work Subie (Soobie?) did for the new Legacy/Outback and really liked it. I showed my mom the Outback and she LOVED it.
We visited the local Subaru showroom (Yark Subaru in Toledo) and it's the only car she's ever sat in at a showroom and immediately felt comfortable in.
So, to condense all that rambling wink2, this Chrysler family is looking at buying an Outback 3.6R!
However, I have a few reservations and questions.
1.) The main reason we want the 3.6R is because it has HID lights. I'm presuming these are Xenon too, right?
2.) Subaru announced at CES 2015 that they are partnering with AT&T to have built-in 4G LTE in their vehicles. I want to wait for that to come to the Outback, which would presumably be with MY2016.
3.) What is the likelihood of Subaru adding a heated steering wheel?! I really want one!
4.) I get confused with all the packages. From what I understand, Blind Spot Monitoring would be standard on the 3.6R Limited. If we get the Moonroof/Keyless/Push Button/Nav/EyeSight package (Really Subaru? No better name for it?) that would mean the car would have blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking and lane-departure warning... correct?
5.) I see "Exterior Auto-Dimming Mirror with Approach Light and Blind Spot Detection" as a $264 accessory option. Shouldn't these be marked as "standard" since we'd have the EyeSight package... or are the standard blind spot mirrors not auto-dimming?
6.) $435 for Subaru remote start... heard it has sub 100-feet range... but I don't want spaghetti wiring via an aftermarket system. Is the Subie system dealer installed or factory installed?
7.) There is a $136 tweeter kit as an accessory. Does the stock HK system not include tweeters or is this like an STi-branded system for cars that don't have tweeters...?
I really wish you could get the Warm Ivory leather with Carbide Grey. That is my #1 favorite combination.
It's down to the two blues (Lapis and Twilight), Venetian Red and mayyybe Wilderness Green and Crystal White.
Can anybody who owns one of these colors chime in with their opinions on them and post some pics?!
We're hoping to have an Outback in the garage by December. My mom has a few back injuries and was recently diagnosed with leukemia... so she's trying to get healthy again and win a settlement case. She was wanting to finally buy her first new car ever (and she's 53...) with the money to get some piece of mind.
Hopefully you guys and gals can help educate me with what I don't know (and I've read almost everything about the OB), and help us with some decisions.
Thanks guys, hope to join the OB club soon ! 0
