Default Just bought a 97 and have some tire and lock ???'s

I just bought a base model 97 Legacy and am wanting just a little more ground clearance. I am running 205/70/15 but am wondering if I can go larger without any mods. Also I am having issues with the door locks (ie. they don't work) and am wondering where to start after checking the fuses. One more question, how would I know if it came originally with keyless entry? It has some info tucked away with the owners manual hinting that it may just need the remote. Thanks for the help

Is this a Legacy or a Legacy Outback ?

This site has all the stock equipment on either. There is also a section on remote programing and function.

Subaru Outback research pages: 2011, 2010, 2009... all years/models

You would have to look around the tire's and wheels section to see what people have run without rubbing issues. You can also figure out the diameter of what you've got, measure the clearance around the tire while pointed straight and at full turn.

This guy is running some fairly large tires but they are also very wide.

The remote door lock and alarm module was added on by the dealer in my case (factory Subaru accessory)...its a black box under the dash near your left knee. Not sure if there was a factory keyless option, or if the add-on was the only way to get keyless entry?

You should have a red light on the left side of the dash (might be a combination light and push button), as well as a black "hidden" button under the dash to defeat the system if your remote fails to work.

The power locks should work with or without the keyless entry...

are you having trouble with the locks using the keys? If that is the case try getting a new key being that it is a 97 the key may be worn. This happened on my old suby. Otherwise if it's keyless entry I am not to handy with electronics.
