Can/Will the Subaru Boxer design suffer from Intermediate Shaft (IMS) and IMS bearing failure found with most late model Porsche? I have searched online with no real agonizing reports of an IMS failing on a Subaru. If you search "Porsche & IMS" then you will find boat loads of stories and reports for them.
Subaru has yet to offer an engine employing an intermediate shaft. The cams are driven directly by chains driven from the crank. Older but still recent models used a rubber belt.
Other bad things can happen of course, but never has a Subaru come off the road for a failed intermediate shaft.
