Default Rare car?

I just bought a 1998 Outback SUS and i havent been able to find info about it being available in 1998. they started the selling sus in 1999 as the 30th ann edition and the such. did they actually make these cars in 1998 making them rare in that model year? since its the first year production of the SUS are they just money pits and not worth buying?

I've read that they were first built in '97 for a limited New England release in '98 they were released as a '99 model countrywide.

This might help.

And this is probably where he read that (look at the "Outback history" section):

Everything Subaru Outback Archives 1998-1999: options, prices, history.

kool, ive been reading those. one site said that it was introduced in and in limited production and formally introduced nationwide in 99. ive seen 99s in the 30th ann edition but not the 98s. i was wondering about the relibility on these cars shouldnt be bad since its basically a outback wagon without the back end.

I would think you'd want to check out reliability before purchasing, not after.

Subaru legacy sedan with the Outback raised suspension on it. As for race car the legacy back in the day was Subaru's ralley car then it grew up and they made the smaller Impreza their race car. It think that happened in the very early 90's by 97 the impreza was subaru's top race car

Yes - the 2l turbo engine first featured in the Legacy before getting used on the Impreza, becoming the 'rally car' in about 1994?
One regret I have is not buying the 1991 white Legacy turbo wagon we test drove in the mid 90's when looking for a bigger (now needing a family car) - just that bit too expensive for us at the time. They were good looking motors - the ultimate/original Q car?
