Default CVT in OB 2012 - few questions

Is Subaru dropping CVT on OB 2012?
From the link below, I don't see CVT
Autotodays 2012 subaru outback

I was considering the OB as I like their AWD system (impressive) but the gas mileage is not there, even 4-cyl 22MPG is a guzzler (my 25-year old Volvo with similar engine gets 23MPG) in 5-yeas they have to comply with 36MPG requirement for USA market.

I don't think it is hard to develop stop/start engine system with the current technology.
I was timing my car idling time (with GPS) and in a city over 25% of the time my car is idling mostly on stop lights and traffic.

2012? Geeze the 2011's just hit the parking lots. The CVT is going to be around for a long time a standard AT will not enable Subaru to meet the milege expectations nor will it give us the buyers the expected performance from the 2.5L.

If anything the CVT will eventually be found in all the models as the Impreza platform gets reworked to accomidate the CVT transmission.

By the way my 2001 legacy GT which is exactly the same car as the 2001 OB got 25mpg around town for nearly 160,000 miles but that was a 5spd MT. Best milege we got on road trips was around 27-28mpg. The old 4spd AT hurts the mpg and the performance.

We had one of those old volvo's in the family for years not sure what your running but that old tractor engine couldn't break the 22mpg barrier if it had a down hill run and tail wind both directions.

And that info is suffering from cut and paste errors by the publisher. The 2010's and 2011's are not 5spd MT they are 6spd Mt and CVT where the heck did you get this crap? At least go to a good source Edmunds would be a good place to start.

I have 740 '86 and in the summer I get constantly 10.5L/100km (22.4 MPG US) - (about 12L/100km in winter).

Go to Edmunds.com they do a good job keeping their data correct. The OB was just redesigned in 2010 only changes for 2012 will probably be the new updated engine with the timing chain and lighter weight valve system and updated heads which should reduce HG leaks. The new engine was written up in the recent Subaru Drive magazine fairly detailed they are seeing about 30% reduction in internal friction with the new design. The oil filter is also on the top of the engine making for a much cleaner oil change than the current 2010-2011 model where the oil filter is wedged between the split in the exhaust.

Yeah....that info is all sorts of wrong. Models are incorrect, and just in general....the article is crap.

Check out subaru.com or edmunds.com for accurate details.
