Default Revisiting Turtle Wax Ice - Circa 2011

I know, I know... Having been a McGuires user since I got my 98 OB (don't even know if I'm spelling this right, all my bottles are well-used), I realized that the amount of work made it harder to keep up my car care schedule.

I got Turtle Wax ICE at Target on sale, really easy to put on, no need to worry about it on the trim, etc...

Seems to look OK on this car and on an 05 Sienna too. Anything anybody know about it's molecular makeup, any warnings? The ease was incredible, that means a lot!

Thanks,

sean

Can't help with the molecular question, although I believe ICE is, along with other brands, a new generation of surface finishes that use synthesized materials.

There's more info on the product website Turtle Wax - ICE

I've been using it for about three years, both the liquid and paste. The ICE website acknowledges that the paste version is the more durable, whereas the liquid has the advantage of a quick, easy protective shine, but one that is not as lasting. The paste takes more work to apply and remove, but is equally clear and used on almost all surfaces except the glass.

I understand there are other makes of finishes that also use these newer formulations.

Default My thoughts, feel free to ignore

I used to use Meguiar's three step, it was worth the effort. But in 2005 I went looking for something better and I think I found it. I tend to keep cars and they don't enjoy a garage so a good wax is necessary.
I'll keep this short, I clay my finish before I apply any polish. I started that in 1999. But the real eye-opener was switching to acrylic polish. I get 6 months or more protection (my Maxima was done on Father's Day 2010 and was still beading and protecting when CarMax took it 2 weeks ago). This with exposure to Maryland weather, I know the weather in other places is more brutal, but it works for me.
There are detailing sites to go look at, ppl will claim Zaino, Zymol, Colinite and scores of others are great. They may be, pick one , learn to use it and be happy. I like either Klasse AIO with Menzerna FMJ or Black Fire. I get them from Classic Auto in FL. My new Outback will get done as soon as the weather warms, I had to get wheel wax and their blackening compound for the cladding.
I offer this as my humble opinion, Turtle Wax, Rain Dance, Simonize and other cleaner waxes work fine. I love carnuba but it melts and disappears I wanted durability and shine. I get it with my system, as they say YMMV.
Thanks for reading, Jerry

I got some Ice at Target too! My buddy swore by it and really liked the clear aspect of it. For $3. 54 a bottle with a micro fiber towel, I couldn't pass it up! I figure the ease of application will make up for the durability.... we'll see.

What a deal! I got mine on clearance for $7.68...

Thanks all for the input, more is welcome too - I kind of think of ICE as Armor-All for paint.

I was hoping to get into a paint sealer chemical but realize that, garaging my cars, ease is a good thing. Not stressing about rubber and vinyl contact was an incentive for me to treat the finish more often. I had (literally) 6 different bottles of McGuire's plus a clay bar plus vinyl and rubber treatment bottles and rarely used them. My 98 OB did well, including time sitting at my workplace parking lot in the desert, I have plans to take a lot more care of the new one so that, when this has 80-90k on it, my daughter will be proud of the hand-me-down car she drives.

Meguires is tops for wax. I use NXT 2.0 and the ultimate quick detailer in between waxing to keep it nice and shiny.

Farnsrocket: If it's always shiny like that, black is it! Beautiful. I wish Subaru kept that front grille!

Thanks! Sadly, it doesn't stay that way too long.
