Default I'm new....

About to order my first Subaru! 2013 Outback 3.6 limited with the special appearance package. I'm trading in my 2010 Silverado. Ive always owned a truck but my need for one has dwindled over the years. If I ever do my dad and brother both have them so I'm covered. I thought about the 4 cylinder but I think downgrading from an 8 to a 4 would send me into shock so the 6 should do just fine.

My fiancé just got her first Subaru last year, a 2011 Forrester.

I went from a Nissan Armada and had the very same concerns. I downsized and wanted to do so for fuel economy. I was set to go with the 2.5, again mainly for the mileage. Talking to a friend with the 6 i had to go drive them back to back. The 2.5 actually felt fine, but i actually felt more comfortable driving the 6 cyl.

Have not regretted it one bit. I have been getting anywhere from 22-24 mpgs on avg. I dont drive it realy hard and thats mixed city/highway driving.

Good luck!

I also traded a Silverado for my OB. I went with the 2.5 and it gets me around just fine. I did put a hitch on the car so I can pull a small trailer if I need the extra capacity. I can honestly say that I haven't missed the truck much at all.

Just arrived in LA CaliforNIA from SF. No roof gear we were at 32mpg for 80% of the trip after a kid potty break stop and top off got jammed up in a bad traffic one lane vs two deal then the 4000ft climb over the vine into LA dropped us to 28mpg. Speeds were 70+mph other than the 15mile stop and go mess for a stretch which killed the mileage average

Welcome to So Cal Subiesailor. Apparently its a whole 'nother world down here, from what visitors tell me. Be sure to try an In-N-Out while you're here (if you still are)!

Born and Raised in CA - us locals have our own language at In-and-Out however many of us never bother anymore due to the lines.

You know what's funny is I haven't been to one in about half a year, despite being about 2 miles from one. And yeah, it has to do with how crowded it always is.

Welcome rellimie!

I too was torn between the 3.6 and 2.5. I sold my turbo Legacy GT to get my OB and was afraid of the downgrade in performance. But honestly once I truly thought about my needs for my OB, a family car for day to day driving and the occasional roadtrip, I soon realized the 2.5 is more than sufficient. After all the car can only handle so well and I've spent the last year towing with a 4cyl Hyundai, so I knew that wouldn't be an issue.

My only other concern was how the CVT would feel, once I test drove it I found the smoothness to compliment the 2.5 quite well. You don't get that hard downshift when you stomp on it, and it doesn't whine at full rpm when you need to speed up a steep hill. The CVT keeps the revs rather constant, squeezing the most out of the 2.5.

1 year in and I don't regret going with the 2.5. I won't say I don't miss my LGT, but I just look in my rear view at the car seat in the back and I forget all about it

Thank you for all the information. I'm picking it up July 9th. We have been taking the Forrester everywhere, trying to avoid putting gas in the truck before the trade.
