I thought I might introduce myself here after lurking a little bit. I recently picked up a really clean (for New England, amazingly clean) 1999 OB wagon. When I bought her, she needed a little body work on the LT front, a new bumper, LT lamps, and a LT fender. At that time, I had them remove the tape stripes, and repaint all the gray two-tone so that everything matched and was freshly painted. Other than that, she's just a clean car with 172k on the clock.
I am driving it with kid gloves until I can tear it down and replace the timing belt because I have no idea when it was done last, and that is a bit scary. However, it has been well cared for, so I hope it will make it another month. For now, I have detailed the car and given it a coat of wax on the old paint, but plan to give it a good buffing to really bring out the paint and re-wax it better. One of the things I really would like to do is tint the windows in a light tint. Maybe 35% or even 50%, but do all the door's and cargo area. I would love to see some photos with a light tint, and know what % you have too. I am trying to make a choice on the tint. 1st gen would be great, but any years will help me. Oh, here is a photo of my new Scooby! I thought it was a pretty good deal for $2000 (Which included the new parts, repair, and paint work!) |

In the summer, you'll really appreciate the max heat rejection you can get - 50% I would think at minimum for that. FormulaOne Pinnacle and Llumar both offer excellent ceramic tints in that range, that won't gank with your radio/mobile reception. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of an Outback of this vintage with tint, but Google may help out here. Remember that interior color will affect the final look from the outside as well. From the inside, 35% would be all but unnoticeable and the 50% barely so. Most stock automotive glass comes from the factory with a 20-30% tint already actually.
On a side note - you've got that car looking AMAZING for it's age! Welcome! ![]() Brian~ |
