While tomorrow will be a day of rejoicing when I finally pick up my Outback, it will also be a day of mourning as I have to part with my favorite car thus far.
Here's a recent photo: ![]() It's a blast to drive and has twice the horsepower of the Subie (yes, it's got 340hp). Since it has a smallish back seat, you won't hear me complain the OB doesn't have enough legroom in back (maybe my older daughter will in 3 years). So what did you have to give up to get your Outback?

I gave up a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT V6 with a 6 spd manual trans. That was a fun car to drive, lots of torque! a couple times I burned the tires all the way through 3rd.

i traded my '01 chevy silverado z71 and my '00 chevy s10 zr2.
![]() ![]() the silverado was fully loaded. i had it for about 1 yr, bought it for $4k under book value. the s10 was my graduation present when i graduated from college. i added a supercharger, msd ignition and exhaust. i miss both trucks. i couldn't tell i was towing my atv with either of them. the outback feels like i'm dragging a ship anchor.

1997 Thunderbird Sport with the 4.6 V8.
More fun to drive than the OB, but the cargo space, AWD, and MPG make up for it.

Drove an 01 Toyota Sequoia for 8+ years before getting my OBW.
The Toyota was an excellent vehicle in terms of reliability and utility. But it was far too big for my current needs and also a gas hog. The OBW is a much better fit. We've kept the Toyota as a backup vehicle and for odd errands. |
