Default Do you prefer stock or mod?

I personally prefer stock as I am trying to stick with all stock compononents for our new to us Subaru. I have had modded vehicles in the past and although fun I just could never get the return on investment. I have started sticking to mostly stock in my vehicles and see it as that is what most people are looking for when searching for a vehicle.
What is your preferance?

I prefer some mods, but not heavily..

I've learned to not ever expect to get any return on the "investment" in mods.

Mod $$ is just to make yourself happy. What'll make someone else happy is probably for you to remove all that stuff before you sell it.

I prefer a good outcome. What does that mean?
Can a mod make things better than stock?
Can the mod introduce its own problems, and how hard would they be to eliminate or compensate for?
Do I really need the mod, or does stock do everything I need?
Not all mods are created equal, even when they're made for the same purpose.

I tend to prefer to start with 'stock mods' - mixing in parts and configurations from other variants or models offered by the manufacturer. Good examples are swaps of suspension bits from Bajas for lift, LGTs for lowering. My first real 'mod' to my Outback was the 9011 HIR high beams, which of course isn't hard, doesn't change anything about the vehicle, isn't that expensive, and doesn't make much of an impact on the function or lifespan of anything in the vehicle. I needed better high beams for my rural drives home, and I didn't want to buy lots of bulbs or have to chop up my wiring. See how that fits the series of questions above?

I haven't owned a car yet that I did get to drive that I didn't 'modify' in some way. I will admit however that I haven't owned a brand new car yet, nor ever considered or cared about trade in or collectible value of any of my cars. My theory is that I buy stuff to use it or have it, not to sell it.

It's a car and a Subaru at that. There is no return on investment. If a mod makes you happy and/or your driving experience more enjoyable, that's your return.

The best mod I've done is to sound deaden the entire car minus front floor and roof. I have a full set of Group-N mounts, poly control arm bushings, and tons of other poly bushings and my car is A LOT quieter than a stock Gen 2. It's actually enjoyable to drive and shift too.

I preffer stock mods. Like previously stated what came on other Subarus, or SPT upgrades. SPT upgrades you won't see your money back really.

I believe there is a return on the investment as stock cars will hold their value better. Subarus are definatley holding their value well as I had to look long and hard. These Outbacks are bringing top dollar around my area and finding a decent used one at a good price was a full time job. Trade in or sell time will pay off for a stocker. I agree with the mod part being alot more fun to drive. I am talking different suspensions, transmissions, motors and stuff like that. I guess bushings are a stock mod and those are good too.
