Received a PM asking just how loud my exhaust was....

Allow me to demonstrate.

I saw the description in the exhaust clip thread. Did you merely gut the cats, or did you also straight pipe through them? The empty chambers obviously aren't conducive to sound control, if that's what you did. If it is so, you might find piping the cat shells and putting one more glasspack inline between those and your final one behind the axle could make the sound acceptable for your daily drives... and hopefully still very sweet.

What you've got from the axle back sounds like what I want to do. With my stock cats, I'd bet just a glasspack won't be all that particularly loud.

The goal with the setup was for it to be as lightweight as possible... and as cheap as possible.

By the time I got done with the engine I was running out of cash fast.... so we simply gutted the cats (left the chambers open) and made a catback that was as light as possible. Thus all it is is a glasspack in the stock muffler location with a little turn-down on the end.

It's really not bad as a DD... around town and such. But on the highway the hotter the system gets, the louder it gets, and the more your ears ring when you get home.

This setup will actually be up for sale soon as I may have required a custom catback for the BH using the same size piping and a STI muffler. Lots of things are going to be changing on the car in the next few months... little quieter, little higher, and a bit more rugged.

Did you fabricate a proper 'axle back' glasspack with a flange and hangers that bolts and hangs like stock?

No... it's one solid piece from the cats back. It was easier to fabricate that way, and gave less chance of leaks (and when I do work on the car I generally just drop the whole exhaust if I need to). All someone would have to do is cut it in two pieces though and add flanges if they wanted them.

You can see what it looks like here... hangars are all in stock locations.

It has been over a year since I have posted on this site, so it is nice to see the Battlewagon back in service. Like what you have done to the interior, looks nice and clean. He looks more hansom without the light treatment in front, just my 2 cents worth.

Oh, you sure are in flat country

Thanks Don!

Also, a more recent pic (or two, or three). I need to take him out and get some new "good" pictures.

The "other" utility vehicle that I "drive" to bring home the bacon.

Moved some things around.

New boots.

What size tire did you end up running? I could make out they were General Grabber AT2 but not the size. I have been thinking about looking into them, but am not sure what the smallest size is I could run unless I lift it. I have considered just doing the 1" spacer but not sure that will be enough to fit the tires. I love your build, and have taken some ideas from it for my White 01, Keep up the awesome work.
