Default 1st Post-Intro & Problem

Hey all...

My name is Bill, a lurker on these forums for well over a year now. This board has been a tremendous resource for me, and I have gleaned a lot of useful info from the various threads and forums. I have a 2011 OB, 2.5 Prem, 6sp MT, and a bit of a problem.

I recently received a very nice bday gift...a 5th of a fairly good rye whiskey. Long story short, the bottle leaked while the car was unattended...the entire bottle of 100 proof whiskey; not a third of it, not a half of it, *all* but a few drops of it (the "flattish" shape of the bottle enabled this to happen). Not sure how it happened, as it was unopened, but it did. It was lying length-wise on the back seat, and I have cloth upholstery.

You can imagine what the car smells like, and I am afraid of attracting every wino and cop from here to Mars. I need to get the odor out as quickly as possible.

This will have to be a professional job. Was wondering if a professional detailer is equipped to handle something like this, as I keep my cars relatively clean myself, and I've never been to one. I read a bit about ozone generators and treatment, but am wondering if most detailers in general have such equipment. I'm also concerned about damaging certain materials in the car with such a treatment, as I have read out here that ozone may not be safe for certain plastics, and things like that. I have also read a bit about 'foggers' to eliminate car odors (kinda like bug bombs, I guess), but I'm skeptical and don't really want to risk hurting the interior any more than I've already done.

Sorry if this post is a bit mundane, or if a similar problem has been previously posted (did a search on "I'm a stupid a**hole who let a bottle of rye drown his back seat", and didn't come up with any hits. Go figure).

Any help, guidance, suggestions, or leads on a good, reputable detailler in Nassau/Suffolk counties in NY would be most appreciated. Sorry for all the words annd thanks very much in advance.

Best regards--Bill

Pro detailers are often tasked with cleaning much worse out of a car- like a fifth of whiskey after it made a u-turn in somebody's stomach. They've got the tools and tricks to do it. Some will even show up in your driveway and do it there so you don't have to risk driving it to them.

Good luck!

If it leaked on the backseat, I would think worst-case- you would need to replace the foam seat bottom but the rest shouldn't be an issue for a good shop. You would be amazed at what a professional can remove from a car. I would check into shops that clean big jobs for insurance companies as I suspect your issue would be pretty easy for them compared to a lot of what they work on.

Thx guys (funny reply, Raster). Found an outfit close to where I work who will come to my place of business and give a full interior detail. I will try that and see how we do, and investigate more drastic means afterwards if needed. Thx again.
