Default rear hatch handle on Impreza?

so my buddy has a 2004 or 5 impreza outback and he snapped the handle trying to open it in the snow and ice.

he was stuck with a non opening hatch for awhile, and a dealer that told him it would be $400 -$600 to replace it.

I of course couldn't stand for that, so I climbed in the back, popped that little square cover off and we opened the hatch (first time for a couple weeks he said!)

then we pulled the inside trim cover off and got to the problem. the handle has two sides, only one of which actually works the mechanism to release the latch, and that was the side that was broken. we took off the two nuts that hold the handle assembly on the door and released the plastic catch that pulls the latch free. took the whole handle right off the door, so at least he can show his part to people, and reach thru the hole to open the door when needed.

so my question is, does anyone have the part number for that handle? any ideas on how to find it?

thanks for any help!!

cheers!
