I have the 2013 outback and already had a punctured tire...I hate those **** doughnut tires and want to get full size rim and tire. My dealer is quoting me about 500 just for the rim...is this craziness at it's greatest height?

Beyond craziness. MSRP for a 16" wheel is $175 for the rim/centercap/TPMS sensor and it can easily be sourced cheaper than that. $500 is ridiculous.
https://www.subaruonlineparts.com/pr...8fe7a58429c926 Buying online is going to cost $$$ to ship to Alaska, but it can't be anywhere near $325 for s/h.

The $175 is for the 16" rims. They're charging $250 for the 17" rims plus shipping, but don't know what that would be to Alaska. And they're charging $340 for the legacy sport 18" rims.

I would bet on $350(wheel+shipping) or better to get one to you. I just sent four coast to coast with UPS and shipping was close to $90 for a two wheel box. I would look in Washington for a dealer.

Before you get too set on the idea: In case you haven't already. Search a bit for "full size spare". They only make the spare tire well big enough to hold a full size Legacy tire when inflated.
Some people have gotten a full size spare to fit uninflated depending on the tire type and carry a can of air to inflate it if necessary. Others just recommend using tire slime and a can of air as many manufacturers are doing without supplying a spare tire these days to cut costs. |

^ The bad thing about tire slime or similar is that it is a PITA for repair shops to clean out, and some won't even attempt to do it - they'll just require that you get a new tire (which can lead to two or four new tires if the tread would be uneven). And of course tire slime can't be used for a full blowout either.

I will NEVER use slime...I have the 17 inch alum wheels with mine and I want the wheel to match (i'm lame like that). A full size fits the tire well just fine if you get don't use the foam insert, verified by me placing my tire in there.

Not sure where in Alaska you are but you could try to have them shipped to Whitehorse.. I would think there are some TireRack recommended shops there...
