Default Vibration in Reverse and Drive

AHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRHRHHHHHH.

Now that I have that out of my system!

I concluded that the motor mounts, transmission mount and the pitching stopper are just fine. I put the stock CV axles back in. Guess what.............. IT STOPPED!!!! This is not a joke!
I moved the motor mounts, examined them, removed the pitching stopper to look at it, pried on the trans & engine mounts. They are just fine! Just FINE I tell ya!

Let this be a lesson. Subaru parts! I hate to say it but SUBARU PARTS! SUBARU PARTS! SUBARU PARTS! SUBARU PARTS! SUBARU PARTS! SUBARU PARTS! SUBARU PARTS! SUBARU PARTS! SUBARU PARTS! SUBARU PARTS! Weird indeed. You are definitely not the first person to have posted this exact issue with parts store axles. The Subaru OEM reman axles from a Subaru dealer should be...

SOA966H1100R1 LEFT or RIGHT FRONT AXLE REMAN from SUBARU FOR 2000-2003 LEGACY OUTBACK ALL (for cars with ABS); can be had from Subaru dealers who sell parts online for ~$180 each.

28321AE07B AXLE FRONT LEFT or RIGHT SIDE NEW FROM SUBARU FOR 2000-2004 LEGACY OUTBACK ALL; these babies go for about $300 each.

I put an MWE axles Subaru reman on my '00obw; zero vibration issues. There have been many posts of people who used MWE with success. They're maybe $75-$100 depending on what you need.

I can do $180 per side. Better than spending $400+ on the four mounts and still have the vibration. I feel better now! I'm still not sure why the axles caused the vibration! I only changed them out of frustration. I did notice that one of the axles has a slightly sloppy outer CV joint. There shouldn't be any in/out movement on them. Even the stockers don't have any movement. BTW I only replaced the stockers because I thought the chirp chirp was the CV's going south (LOL). The stockers will make it a few more weeks until I can get to the dealer for axles.

$180 would be a good online price. Unless you have something worked out with your local dealer plan to pay a lot more

Schweet. It's nice to have a good local dealer for parts. I have two local dealers; one charges me double Subaru msrp. The other charges me Subaru msrp, but on their invoice they claim it is a discount because they jack up the 'list price'.

My wife & I went to the market. She said it's like a different car. The axles WERE making noise too! Very smooth. A lesson learned! A big disappointment for the Napa axles! I must say once again how easy it was to replace the axles! 30 min start to finish. I like this car! I wish it would stop breaking!

I added Axles to the thread title, for search purposes.

Actually if your original axles seem to be working ok maybe they don't need replacement. The Subaru OEM axles are very durable. The common failure on this age/mileage is the RH inner boot rips as it is near the exhaust.
