Can you jack the rear of the outback with a floor jacks off the diff like you can with a 4x4/rear wheel truck to lift the entire rear end at once for placing jack stands?

Thanks Guys. no, no rear skid plate.
After I had a Uhaul hitch installed, I find the exhaust system is moving around quite a bit, especially after it warms up and perhaps goes over a big bump, then the end of the muffler is rubbing/hitting on the back of the hitch causing a wonderful sound that permeates through the frame and around the car. It wierd how after the exhaust cools down, the muffler retracts and has about a 3/8" to 1/2" gap between the muffler and hitch. I need to take a look to make sure the exhaust is hanging correctly from the car. Not sure what to do about this otherwise. I confirmed with uHaul that they installed the correct hitch.

Some of the more commons Hitch config's (installtion sheets)
http://www.draw-tite.com/fitguides/pdf/N36234.pdf http://www.hiddenhitch.com/fitguides/pdf/N60823.pdf Looking at the install instructions, the exhaust mounting is "changed" in both -- The HiddenHitch folks just lift up and remount the exhaust hanger (opportunity for getting it in a little different position than it's been before), where the Draw-Tite folks actually hang the exhaust off of the hitch with a bolt and washer stack(totally different geometry). I'm not certain what U-Haul sells and installs, but I'm believing that they stock Cequent products here locally (so similar to the HiddenHitch mounting). I'm sure that once you have it up in the air (by the rear diff) and safely secured on stands (I hope), that it'll just be a minor adjustment a bend or slice to a heat shield -- or maybe only a tweak to a hanger position. It is possible that your installer simply skipped the part about installing the rear hanger - that would be my first check since that hanger is most likely causal or contributory to your issue anyway. One other thought is to look at the general condition of your rubber hangers - a few$ (Maremont p/n 528766 ~$5.50 USD) could stabilize the whole system. |

I just installed a Class II Hidden Hitch on my Outback Limited. there is no recommendation to move the muffler! The Hitch bows underneath it, and just clears the end of the exhaust pipe!
