Fri my 01 Outback Limited passed the emissions test at Jiffy Lube. Sunday the check engine light stays on! Going to the dealer tomorrow, they think its nothing big. Can't hear anything wrong with the engine. Well maintained Subie, any tips/hints to fend off my favorite dealer from gooseing me?

Go to AutoZone and borrow their reader. Run the diagnostic and see what codes come up. Sounds like Jiffy Lube touched something and forgot to put it back.

Yes autozone or such a place is good one to get the code read free. Make _sure_ you get the code number such as P0420 (not just whatever description they give you). And don't buy any parts they want to sell you to 'fix' the problem.
If you go to the dealer, a lot of times they charge a diagnostic fee of say $50-90 just to read the code. |

Dealer didn't charge me, the gas cap wasn't tight enough. Bogus? who knows, good guy dealers. The light was on, not flashing, so I learned a few things. Thanks for the advice here, as always its great to have this Forum
