The rear drivers side bearing is getting louder over the last month.
Should I replace both sides? Are there other parts that could be damaged if I wait too long? |

When the bearing disintegrates, it may take the axle and hub with it.
It's is good thinking to replace both rear bearings at the same time, however, you could wait for the other one to eventually fail before changing it. Decision time! How many miles on your vehicle? |

Sounds like mainly the one side right now but I don't want to replace the axle if I can as that sounds expensive. Axle = $395 from local dealer.
I am sure there are ones cheaper on-line. Can the bearings be done easily? Do you need to press them in or out with special tools? I have only done trailer bearings before. There is 175,000 km (105,000 Miles) on it. |

Here's a nice thread with pics about wheel bearing replacement. This person used a press. Subaru actually recommends the slide hammer pull method, less chance of deforming the bearing housing which then causes cascading repeat bearing failures.
