Angry 1998 Legacy Outback wont Start

I have just replaced the harmonic damper pulley on a EJ25 motor (Moved back and broke the AC belt). The motor ran before the new one was put on and now it turns over but will not start. Has fuel spark and a gas or vapor smell coming from the air breather. I changed the crank sensor and still no luck.

Did you fiddle at all with the timing belt?

Check the toothed sprocket behind the pully. Make sure none of the teeth are broken. Check the timing belt, make sure its still in time.

How many miles?

Default Thanks nipper for the response

The sprocket looks intact I only did a visual inspection on the timing belt.

Check the engine timing. When was the last time the timing belt was changed.

Default Im back Hey nipper

The timing at top dead center is three teeth off .Will this bend the valves or can i just move them back and go back to my repairs. I have been told that this an interferance motor so if the timing is off (due to belt slippage) the valves will touch or cause problems. Also it seems that the crank sprocket has moved back about 1/16 of an inch. I may have to pull this EJ.

There is only one way to find out. Reset the belt and crank the motor.

See if it starts. You dont need to reassemble the front of the engine to do this.
