Hey folks, 2005 OBXT with 5EAT.
No lights on dashboard and yes the dashboard is all working because when I turn key to ON without running engine I can see all the lights turn on.
Several times in the last few weeks, I noticed that the 5th gear on my 5EAT will become unavailable. It is not popping out, it is not slipping. The computer is pretending that the 5th gear does not exist. Most of the time, the 5th gear IS available to me and I can shift fine.
When the 5th gear disappears, it will not shift automatically into 5th (stays in 4th even beyond 65mph). The dashboard shows 4 with no option to shift into 5 in sportshift mode.
It is 10F here these days and not sure if that is related. I have the hard slam into 2nd/3rd gear when the car is cold. When I drive the car for a while the 5th gear magically appears and shifting occurs normally and smoothly in either auto or sportshift mode.
So, what causes the car to completely forget that it has a 5th gear?
Of course I am still having these problems too.
