Default 2009 Outback - Replacing cabin air filter

A couple of months ago my wife bought a used 2009 Outback. I'd like to replace the cabin air filter. I removed the cover on the right side next to passenger door and got the retaining string unhooked but could not figure out what to do next. I tried to take (what appeared to be a screw) the hinge screw out but it just turned and didn't unscrew . . . any suggestions would certainly be appreciated.

The hinge "screw" at the right end of the glove box is actually not a screw but a plastic push in pin. If you turn it about 1/4 turn counterclockwise, the center should back out. Then the whole pin (center and wider part around it) can be pulled out, and the right side of the box will be free.

Also, look at the DIY forum here. There are several threads there on replacing the cabin filter, and I believe one is for the 08, which should be close enough to your 09.
