I have a 1998 Forester 2.5 DOHC, does anyone know what the P1703 low clutch timing control solinoid circuit malfunction means?
Car runs but stalls at lights and takes a long time to get up to speed. Thanks, Chris |

It means that the OBD has detected a condition in which the solenoid is not functioning as it should. This could be due to a short or an open circuit in the wiring between the Transmission Control Module and the solenoid, a defect in the solenoid, or a failure of the TCM.
Not sure if this would affect the way the engine runs, but I suppose it's possible, especially if the low clutch isn't engaging, or disengaging properly. Diagnosis involves checking the wiring first. A service manual, or at least a wiring diagram would be needed. |

P1507: Idle control system malfunction (fail-safe).
The fail-safe is a preset setting that allows the engine to function in the face of a problem, but with limitations that are sufficient only to move the car. That would explain the idling and perfomance symptoms you reported. I believe that code indicates a leak in the air intake system such as a cracked or loose intake manifold or a disconnected or cracked vacuum hose, or a problem with the idle air control solenoid system. |

I will take a closer look at those things. I also found a site that explains how to clean the idle control valve which may clear that up. Cleaning And Reattaching The IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) - NASIOC
