Solenoid valve

I have a Subaru outback automatic import from USA left hand drive. Suddenly won’t shift out of first gear. Mechanic said one of the valves is faulty, won’t open and shut. Can't clear the code (P code 0768) . Subaru won’t sell valves individually, so need to buy the whole thing: cost £1,600 + cost to install £600, can only purchase from Subaru Japan 3 weeks delivery wait. I am furious, the car is not even 8 years old, and I have to spend £2,500 to fix, can’t sell as it won’t shift out of first gear.

Question: Is there any way around this cost? Anyone who could install just the valve? Can I get this valve as a spare part? where?

Question : Is it worth spending this kind of money on an automatic import , what else will go wrong/ Seems you breath of this car and a fault light goes on.

I bought this car because I though Subaru's were supposed to be a good reliable car, how can this be considered a good car when within 8 years of purchase you have to spend this kind of money . Any advice much appreciated.

I think you need to take it to an auto trans specialist. You will source an individual part even if it has to come from overseas (don't know where you are). Second hand parts are common from wrecks. Good luck.
