Smile Removing the Passenger Door Panel.

Hello all. The speaker in my 2k9 Outback is rattling like a baby rattle!! I would like to know how to remove the door panel. I was looking for screws but did not see any. Thanks in advance!!

I don't know which one you found, but this link might help. It's my recent findings couple with a link to the original instruction post by plainOM

This is the one I found. I tried to do the "twist" on the handle but it does not act like it is supposed to turn. I don't want to break it. Can you remove the bottom half of the panel without removing it all? I just want to get the lower door speaker out to replace it. It looks like the panel is 2 pieces.

The inner door trim panel is actually one piece. I doubt the bottom can be pulled out enough to access the speaker, which is fastened to the door itself (not to the trim panel) by screws.

The whole handle doesn't turn, if that's what was expected. The black part of the handle that is visible is actually a plastic cover in the shape of a "C", that wraps around the main part of the handle. The twisting is supposed to lift one end of the "C" off allowing the black cover to come off.

See attached from 2007 fsm.

Let us know how the panel removal works out, and about the speaker replacement.

Sorry, I'm late to the party, but OM knows a ton more than I would anyway. Watch out for the tar sealer holding the plastic film of weather proofing between the door frame and the door trim panel. Very messy stuff! Best to take care getting the plastic stretched back and seal to keep it relatively water proofed upon reassembly. (Might as well check the bottom window track nuts while you're in there. They tend to loosen up according to my Subie dealer.)
