Default Oil Filter

P/N 15208AA15A is correct! Good job oldboy... My QuickValve (Fumoto) drain valve is also ready to be installed with the first oil change at 3000 K (I drive daily less than 5 miles and therefore it is considered "severe conditions").

As mentioned the 4cyl filter is 15208AA15A for sure, We updated our filter section for the 2013 here https://www.subaruonlineparts.com/in...ath=32_108_152
I ordered them from "subaruonlineparts"; based on your feed back and their post above it looks like they must have accidentally sent me the wrong filters. I will contact them for a return shipping label.

thanks

"Subaruonlineparts" sent me the wrong 152088AA160 instead of 15208AA15A too.
Now I have to send them back

Thanks. I needed a good comedic read. Y'all are funny.

This should keep you busy: Motor Oil, Synthetic Oil, Transmission Fluid ? Pennzoil

And: WIX filters, WIX oil filters, WIX air filters, WIX fuel filters, WIX Heavy Duty Oil Filters : Filter Look-Up

Knock yourselves out. WIX is a better filter. If you don't want WIX, you can cross reference the part number.

Super! Thanks! At my 1st oil change, dealer filters were the only option. I'm glad to see the after market it catching up.

I typically use Wix oil filters for my '05 2.5i H4 engine. Just recently, there has been a new Wix oil filter introduced which I am using from now on, it is Wix number 57712

Default 15208AA15A vs 15208AA160

New '13 OB 2.5 owner here.. I have read this stuff till I'm blue in the face and yet.. still find conflicting information.

Factory filter on my car now is the 15208AA15A. 67.9mm in diameter said some post somewhere (forester forum? beats me.. its all a blurr )

My local dealer says the 15208AA160 has replaced it and that's the one they have. Forum says 86mm.. 18mm larger.. I am surprised looking at the place it goes that there is that much extra room or that the gasket will seat on the nice machined landing zone that I see only slightly sticking out from the current 15A filter.

somerset_subaru seller on ebay says:
Subaru did in fact temporarily change the 15A filter to the 160 filter because of a recall, but they since came out with the new design 15A filter and you no longer have to use the 160 filter.

weluvparts seller on ebay says:
yes, there was a recall on the 012A and A15A. We have sent the "bad" batches back to Subaru already.
2nd the A15A is the correct filter (blue) however many people are swapping or upgrading to the 160 (black) filter. I discussed with the 2 Subie guys I work with and they can't seem to figure out why everyone is switching to the 160. There does not seem to be a clear advantage. We have both in stock.

I haven't had a chance to cut one up and doubt my boss would appreciate it. There seems to be a large amount of people switching to the later black(160) one...at the very least it won't hurt. As far as the oil, I think our Subaru dealership even uses Mobil 1. I don't think it will make any difference in filter or oil unless you start tuning your engine or drive really hard.

subaruonlineparts says:
15208AA15A is what would be sent for my 13 OB FB25

OK.. so normal driver.. little skiing.. around town.. surely not "driving hard"... but what is the better filter ? period ? for the price i don't care which one I get.. might as well get the best choice.

Did they make a change to the car itself so the bigger one won't even fit and its a moot point (not that I have tried ) ?

Do I dare ask about oil choices ? I have tried to endure the endless postings , mostly over my head with acronyms I don't know.. Is buying Mobil 1 0w20 in a 5 qt jug for $25 just fine ? Do I somehow need the Idemitsu branded by subaru for 50% more $ or amsoil or any to avoid like the plague ? I've used Penzoil platinum before.. whatever had the rebates.. or Quaker State ultimate Q. Those were 5w30 for my "normal" cars.. not 0w20

I want to do the "right" thing..

and yes.. i have my fumoto F108 out for delivery today via ups.. dig em..
Appreciate what I hope won't be a crap storm in my general direction for being such a neanderthal.

Well, I would just go with the 15208AA15A if that's what Subaru says is correct. I was unaware of a recall on the original A15A! I'm not sure if good aftermarket filters are available for this engine yet. Hope I don't have a bad one in the car....

On oil, Mobil 1 0w20 is just fine. There are as many opinions on oil as there are oil options and for lot's more different reasons. As long as the oil you choose makes you happy and meets Subaru's oil requirement, you are good. I would not buy the Subaru branded oil - not cost effective. Personally, I'm using Amsoil 0w20 in my wife's car - a bit over the top, but that's what I do.

If you want to read about oils until your eyeballs pop out, search for a "Bob's the oil guy" forum. There, you will get thousands of opinions on the optimal oil for this engine.

Food for thought: If you have not already found it, look for the thread that shows how to modify the fumoto valve to ensure you get a complete drain.

Yea.. been on bobistheoilguy's site and it scared me off.. Not up on the acronyms enough to make any sense of it. The blackstone analysis looks fun but.. eh.. am I going to learn something everyone else that has done it has not already ?

2013 Subaru 0W-20 and filter combo??? - Bob Is The Oil Guy

has the info on the filter issue they had on the 15A filter

I will look for the fumoto modification.. I recall when putting them in my other cars sure has a lot of threads which will prevent some oil from getting out.. Tx
