Default Coolant Smell

About 10k ago I had my headgaskets replaced under warranty..This was back in Mid June and since then I've been driving all over the northeast(Cape Cod, New York, Maine, Massachusetts) and I haven't had any problems..however in September I noticed the temp gauge going up more than half way and smelling coolant when I was sitting in traffic...Then it stopped...Now I've noticed strong smells of coolant after long drives, and when my car is idling...I've checked for any small leaks, there isn't any puddles under the car when it sits..I'm pretty stumped on this...I also had the dealer look at it again to see if they could find any issues..but they couldn't find anything

well, it 'seems' like it could be an issue with the fans not working or not kicking up to high speed but, i dunno what to say - maybe try a different dealer ???

maybe someone can suggest a shop for you.

My car has been to 4 dealers...I live in northern westchester..when my car was first overheating about 2 years ago I took it to smith carnes subaru in brewster NY and they couldn't find any issues...then in may I took my car to curry subaru in cortland manor, and they replaced my headgaskets(they are crooks) and then I took my car to Milea subaru in the bronx by my school, and they couldn't find any issue...well excuse me 3 dealers...but still..when my car was idling for a bit the other night I could hear both fans kick on when the thermostat popped...hmm

has the rad cap ever been replaced? the thermostat? was an oem thermostat used?

is there any bubbling in the overflow bottle if you were to observe it during an overheat occurrence?

No bubbling in the coolant, original thermostat as far as I know...and I told the dealer to check the radiator cap but they told me if was bad then the system wouldn't be pressurized
