My new Outback 3.6 Limited (<600 miles on the odometer) managed to get a pit and a crack in the windshield during the blizzard here in Boston. I need to have it replaced but was not sure where to go. Dealer? Or Glass Repair Shop? I am concerned because of the heating elements (for wipers) and sunblock dots etc. I do not want to lose that functionality with a generic replacement. Also, I am just plain bummed because I hate that something has gone wrong with new car .
Thanks for any advice,
Do you have glass coverage on your insurance? If so, go through them, they'll send you to a vendor for the work, they will be the ones to question about the heating element. I think others on here have gotten it using a non-dealer glass shop.
I asked my glass guy the last time I was in with a work vehicle. I was curious how much a heated windshield would set me back when (not if) I need one. He looked up the price and it was about $350 installed with the heating element. It was about $35 to $50 less for a windshield without the element.
So yes, the aftermarket companies have windshields with the heating element.
