Default dtc p1443

Hello everyone. I'm a new subaru owner, I've got a 2001 L.L.Bean outback with 54,000 miles which I bought 6 months ago. I really have enjoyed the car, very happy I bought it. I've found this site to be very helpful, but i just can't seem to find an answer to this problem and how to fix it. I have a check engine light and a code P1443 ? Can someone give me some info on this and how to troubleshoot it or at least point me in the right direction? Thanking you in advance. Michael

Welcome to the forum!

I did a search of the code list I have - got it with the Actron Pocket Code Reader. The P1443 code has the following definition: "Manufacturer Control Auxiliary Emission Controls." Unfortunately, I can find no further explanation for this code.

Can anyone else provide more specifics on this code?

Pete

Michael,

I've been thinking on this a little more . . . did the CEL come on recently, or has it been on for a while?

One simple thing you can check is your gas cap. I know a loose gas cap will trigger the CEL, but I don't know the specific code.

Guys - there's an ODBII reference list at the top of this forum. For your code - it says:
P1443 EVAP Control System Vent Control Function Problem

From what I can gather in the Subaru tech manual, this vent solenoid is a function of the vapor recovery system that keeps fuel vapors from being discharged to the atmosphere during refueling.

From the sounds of it - it relies on vacuum in the tank to reseal once refueling is complete - that it's not functioning would certainly point to a loose, or uninstalled gas cap as the first source of a problem.

Thanks, Jazzy. Somehow I missed the OBD-II list . . . yet another great resource at SubaruOutback.org!

Thanks guys, it was the gas cap. Good thing I checked in with the forum before I spent to much time checking all the emission components. Thanks again

Default P1443 CEL Code

Hi all,
My '02 Bean just threw the CEL after a 100 mile trip (no gas fill-up during trip - I ifilled up two days prior). The refernce here says P1143 = "Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Input" and my mechanic cleared the code, but said there was no way to know which pressure sensor it was. Could this be oil pressure? Transmission oil? The EVAP system mentioned in this thread?

I would love to think it was just the gas cap, but that seems like an odd thing to trip the CEL (light was on solid for two days - no blinking). What do you think this is? The car runs perfectly, engine oil is fine, and nothing different from when light came on.

I am about to trade the car in, but don't want any damage if it is a different sensor on a critical part.

Thoughts???

Thanks,
Matt

I have the P1443 code, gas cap is sealed tightly and I cannot easily put fuel into the gas tank. I have to just barely hold the fuel filler on and slowly fill the tank. I've gone 600 miles with this problem. Where should I start?
