Default Damplifer Pro or Dynamat Extreme?

Hi- I am looking into having a subwoofer installed in my 2011 Outback and have been wondering whether/how much sound deadening material to use? I have the HK system but want to replace to sub to get more bass. Can anyone who has installed either of these in their outbacks (2010/2011 in particular) please let me know what you did and how much of a difference it made? Thanks!

I used 20 Sqft for my doors in total for full outer coverage of doors. Then i used like 15 sqft for the rear where the spare is.

Theres not really going to be much of a difference between them really. They are both brand names. blah...doesnt really matter.

I have heard good things about this stuff. Plus...its cheap.

Thanks. How long did it take to put it and was it hard for a noob who has never opened a door panel? Did you pull out the speakers to do?

Was there big difference? When do you plan to do the luxryliner from your list of wanted upgrades?

took me like 2 hours without the proper tools... I recommend a roller!!! As long as the stuff is...hot its generally easy to put on(If its 80 out and you have in the sun). If its to cool for that where you are use a blow dryer and heat it up before you apply and that will help out ALOT.

There was a nice difference in the sound of the stereo. Plus no more rattles...A LITTLE in sound deadening...but not much...

Now, when putting it on.... there is one thing you dont want to do... You dont want to put the stuff you get on the slider thing for the window... The about the only straight up and down peice you will see in the larger hole.

Thats about it. have fun!

If you read about dynamat you only need to use a small amount to get the desired effect, you do not need to coat the entire surface of any part of your car. Read into a little bit. Also the off brand is a lot cheaper then actual dynamat - with a happy an irritated Chip Foose on the box

Thanks. I have been researching. I also found this place (Dynamat Kits - Extreme Bulk Dynamat Trunk and Hood Kit) that seems to have reasonable prices on Dynamat but I am still shopping and haven't decided on which brand yet. I also still need to decide if I want to add the equivalent of Dynaliner on top of the Dynamat in each door...

Dynamat used to preach that you only needed a very small amount to do the job, and then they figured out that they should try to get people to cover every surface cause it sells more Dynamat.

They used to have a display with two big coffee cans full of bolts that you could shake and listen to the bolts rattle.

One can had about a postage stamp sized piece of Dynamat and the other didn't have any-- the point of the display was that even a little piece of Dynamat was enough to kill vibration and noise. After all, what you're trying to accomplish is killing the metal panel's ability to vibrate, because it's the vibration that transfers sound. Once you add enough Dynamat to stop the vibration (and it doesn't take much) everything else is just added weight.

Think about it like this (I play drums) you put your finger on a drum head and that's enough to muffle the sound of the drum. Putting your whole hand on the drum really doesn't do that much more than a single finger.

Whoa you used a lot of sound deadener! I already had the audio shop install all 4 doors.

Had a bit leftover and did part of the spare tire well. Just the spare tire well alone will use a ton. Then if you pull apart the foam inserts it appears there is a lot of bare metal there too.

I will probably order another Extreme door kit and use that for the rear cargo area. Interested in any other tips for good sound deadener locations.

I've used nearly every brand of deadener in some form or fashion in the past and find that reputable brands will all do the same. Raammat, Second Skin, Edead, Fatmat, Dynamat, Roadkill, etc.. will all do the same. In my Accord that I used to compete with I went all out, nearly 400 sq ft covering everything, includind metal behind the dash. The most benefit is obviously the doors and well but I appreciate the roof since it makes most of the noise from rain disappear, and helps tame some of the reflected noise. I would start with 50 to 100 sq ft and cover as much as you can.

I highly recommend Alphadamp. Good pricing, reputable product, reputable business. I have 20 sq ft in my 2004 Outback and it's excellent. I could do for another 20 sq ft but already the difference is very noticable.

I applied it in the front doors, rear quarters, spare tire well (where the sub is located), and the hatch.
