Hey guys I run into an issue that I'm having problems solving and I'm hoping you can help. Here goes.
Well the aswc was working correctly, but now a number of the buttons on the steering wheel don't work correctly anymore. In addition to this the volume on the head unit went up to the maximum randomly while driving the other day and when I turned it down through the head unit main display it went down but then would go back to max volume when I quit pushing the volume down button. The aswc auto detected the car initially, and then over the course of 4-5 days began losing functionality, like only the tuner buttons would work. I tried to manually program the aswc and I accomplished all of the steps just fine, with the aswc even recognizing that my stereo was a pioneer with the 6 blinking lights at the end of the procedure before it went to the constant red light. But still only the tuner buttons work correctly. Below is the background info for my situation, along with the aswc connections I made based on a phone conversation with a metra employee. I'm hoping that you may be able to help me out based on this info. I want to get this figured out as this was a b-day gift for my wife. Subaru outback '11, no nav, no Bluetooth controls on steering wheel. The only audio controls on the steering wheel are vol up/vol down, tune up/tune down, mode, mute. The head unit I bought was pioneer avh 2400bt through Crutchfield. Head unit works great through touchscreen. The connections of the aswc that I made based on the phone conversation I had with the metra employee are: Black to ground (connected to the ground of the head unit and the ground coming out of the wiring harness of the car) Red to the red from the wiring harness and the red from back of stereo. Gray/red to the purple/white coming out of the car Connected the orange/white coming from the car to ground White/green from ASWC to ground. Plugged in the 3.5 into the back of the stereo Currently the volume buttons don't work on the stereo. The mute doesn't work. The tuner buttons work fine. The mode button will pull up my phone info (contacts, calls, etc) when pushed, but doesn't cycle through the different modes (radio, ipod/usb, cd, aux, bluetooth audio, etc) of the stereo like it *should and did when initially set up. Please let me know if there is any additional details that you need from me to trouble shoot this. I've been trying to get this figured out for the better part of a week now with no such luck. I appreciate any help that you may be able to offer. Jeff |

From what you have listed it seems to me the power connection is not secure. If it seems to have worked when first installed and now is on the fritz I would look into the connections. I used the ASWC in my '12 with a Kenwood and it's been great. What type of connections (ie solder, crimp, t-tap, tape...) have you used to connect the wiring? Have you pulled the radio back out to see if there is an obvious issue with the wiring? In a last ditch effort you could try manually program. I know that at ine point Metra changed the auto program for some units to include a 1200 ohm resisitor. I tried both ways to verify that all was working (though my Kenwood doesn't recognize the phone control buttons on my steering wheel).
