Just had a similar thing happen to me last night on my '09 XT. While driving home with a cd playing and the AC on I glanced down and there was no text/icon display for either radio or climate control. However, for me, all the buttons still worked, i.e., i could still control volume/track/etc and fan speed/ac/etc. After shutting off the car and re-inserting the key to the on position, everything worked fine again. I also had no problems on the way to work this morning. Will continue to monitor.

 

This also happen to me about 2 weeks ago. Except I had no comtrol of radio or my climate controls everything was blank. Called the dealer they said that people were having problems and had to have the whole unit replaced and said it would take 2 weeks to fix. When I got home I touch all my fuses to make sure they were in and re started the car everything has been working fine ever since.

 

There seems to be quite a few of these on various lists.

I've had some miscellaneous electrical problems, like the key fob not working or no reception on the radio that I've attributed to a problem with rain. Each problem has shown up after rain or after driving the car in the rain.

I have an 09 OB, any more occurances and it will be going back to the dealer.

It's happened twice to me. I can't remember if both cases were right after a rain, but the first time was after rain.

Radio display and climate control display: BLANK. I was able to control the climate controls (temp/fan speed, etc.) but the audio controls were dead. The volume could still be controlled via the steering wheel controls.

Turned the ignition off, back on, and everything was functional.

I'm not sure it's anything to really panic about at this point, my 09 is still under warranty so I'll bring it up next service visit.

Electrical problems scare the bejesus outta me. I had an 02 BMW 325i that died on the highway because of an electrical malfunction. (Mice chewed wires under the hood!)

Any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Mine 08OB has radio and climate control issues now too. No lights and no control of radio or climate.

 

2008 Climate display and radio went out.

I was driving in a rain storm at night when both the climate display and radio went out. I was using the defroster on the windshield. That light started flashing on and off and would not work. When I got to my destination I restarted the car and everything came back on. Anyone figured this one out??

Same here flashing radio and A/C lights

I have a 2009 Subaru outback 3.0 .....the radio and ac lights starting
flashing when I started the car this morning.....while they are flashing I can't
change the Temperature on either AC control right or left....also the radio
volume button will not work and you can't change the radio
stations.....I can still turn the radio on and off...and
I can still adjust the fan speed on the ac and turn the ac on and off....
the flashing seems to stop after a few minutes and everything
works just fine........However this happens every time I start
the car...or turn the ignition on and off...does anyone know what might be causing this ?????

Well problem with non function controls seems to have been fixed
......they said the codes were saying the radio ac controls need to be
replaced however the shop sent the controls the reset codes and turned
the ignition key back and forth from Aux to off and everything worked again...
Hopefully it stays that way.....29.99 or 39.oo dollars later......

I have this exact issue with my '08 Subaru Outback.

When the radio and climate control go out:
1) I can turn the radio on/off
2) I can still adjust climate control (though obviously it doesn't display)
3) I can NOT adjust any thing on the radio
4) Sometimes when the display goes out it either changes a radio station or adjusts volume to zero

I've noticed this is a problem more on hotter days than colder days. Also, if I touch the radio display and apply gentle pressure, it almost always fixes the problem for at least a little while - this suggest to me it's not a fuse issue.

Has anyone found a satisfactory fix to this other than "replace it"? (The cost I've been quoted seems a bit ridiculous).

Cleaning oxidation from the grounding pins that provide a contact between the front panel to the unit seems to be the most common fix. Fixing bad solders have aided others as well.

When the problem presents itself, the "Source" button on the steering wheel works but no sound comes out of the speakers as the volume control on the steering wheel doesn't do anything either. Eject button on the panel always works.
