New 2013 USB Port

Maybe this is a dumb question, is there a difference between USB 2.0 and Hi Speed USB 2.0?

The above seem to contradict each other if there isn't. AFAIK, USB 2.0 offers higher thruput rates than the older USB 1.X standard, but is there a 2.0 standard and non-standard High Speed USB 2.0 USB drives out there?

I don't see thruput rates listed on many pages that sell USB drives...

Has anybody with a 2013 model of Imprezza/Crosstrek find in the manual where it says the 8GB limit? I'm flipping through section 5 of my Crosstrek manual and I don't see any mention of the 8GB limit.... (I have tried an 8GB USB 2.0 memory stick and it works fine...)..

I'm using a 32GB SanDisk flash drive and it (mostly) works fine. It reads files correctly, play the music as it should in the alphabetical order of the folders. I'm still trying to figure out the magical theory behind the actual amount of files and folders. Everything I've found online makes no sense with limits on the number of folders, the number of files, the drive capacity, etc.

The main problem I'm having is the car stereo seems to have an undetermined limit of files or folders that can be accessed. Right now I have 281 folders and a total of 4,321 files totaling 27.1 GB. Similar to Bologna's post, the car does stop reading after right around 255 folders (not including sub-folders), but it definitely reads past the 2,500 file limit. So what is the actual limit and what is it really based on?

Also, according to Bologna's post, there are different specs for "Type A" and "Type B" audio. So far I cannot find anything online specifying a A/B difference in music files. Can anyone clarify the difference?

I guess I'll just try to get less than 255 folders in the root directory and see if that works. I wish there were definitive guidelines considering all of the available information is contradictory.

I am also using a SanDisk 32gb flash drive. Everything seems to be working fine. Type A/B I think refers to the radio not the music files. Type A is the non-premium sound system, Type B is the Harmon-Kardon premium sound system. The Nav system has different instructions all together.

What I found was that if I put 255 files in a folder, it sees them all, any more and it won't see some of the files. I don't have nearly as much music as you do, but what I do have is all playable.

I just purchased a 2013 2.5 base model and tested a 2GB thumbdrive I had ... which works, but I noticed the folder names aren't being displayed on the radio display as they appear on the actual thumbdrive. For example:

Anyone know if this is typical for the base model radio display?

I had mine on a 4GB drive made by OCZ that did not work, but I switched it to an 8 GB drive made by Crucial and so far it is working perfect! Very happy.

It shows my folders just as they are labeled.

Interesting about the 4GB vs. 8GB.

You're profile says you have a limited (I've got a base model), so I'm assuming you have a large lcd display vs. the standard radio display (approx 1.5" height x 6" width). If this is the case, my suspicion is the larger lcd displays may have a more sophisticated interface into the USB ... unless you're saying you also have a "standard radio display"?

Nope the limited has a 4x3 in display or something along those lines. I need to play with it more to see how all the controls work with it.

That threw me off at first, too.

"Type A" versus "Type B" are not differences in the music files -- they
refer to the audio head units. (See Owner's Manual pages 5-5 & 5-6.)

"Type A" is the standard unit in OB/Legacy base & Premium trim levels.

"Type B" is the H-K unit -- standard in Limited, optional in Premium.
