The new 2013 outback with NAVI is made by Fujitsu.
This is the 1st year and I think it has lots of bugs that are not being delt with by Subaru. When on the main map display. The is a function button on the top right hand corner. When deployed it is suposed to slide out. Mine takes aproximately 4 seconds to recognize the command, the about another 4 seconds to start the command, and slow after that and usually times out before the screen fully displays. 1. Can you test this in your car and see if it does similar. Please say if you are in a northern climate or southern climate. maybe temerature 2013 outback limited with Navi. this is a new system by Fujitsu. I think there are more bugs and no software upgrade to be had as yet. Just trying to determin if I have a defective Navi or are we all in the same boat. check out this Video on Youtube. 2 - There is also the slide volume control which is set all the way over to the left. Any minute adjustment to the right and its too loud. any minutiae adjustment to the left turns the volume off. 3. Back up camera confirmation for blue tooth obscuring camera while backing up. Thanks much everyone. |

The slow quick menu problem is unique to you, I think, but the others are common to the rest of us with '13s. There are a lot of posts about these issues and no, SOA doesn't seem to be doing anything about them. Oh, and you forgot to mention that the maps are over a year old.

Yes the maps are a year old and it would be a great if as many Garmin products offer lifetime map update, maybe they could at least offer 1 free update sometime during the warrentee period. Definately a software upgrade would be for the volume slide control and the backup camera. |

I almost forgot - late notices of upcoming turns. That backup camera thing drives me nuts. My dealer reported the volume control issue to SOA at my insistence, but nothing came of that. A nav and radio firmware update would make a lot of customers happy.

Ok, Answer to
*Back up camera and *Extreme delay and time out of function button on the top right of map screen. I contacted a guy named Andrew at Subaru's Customer Service Center. I provided the YouTube video which was very detailed. He called me back with the worst excuse and possible answer for my problem. He said I had bought a car from the US and I was in Canada and it might have problems finding the satellites. I was expecting a technical review but I got coffee talk from the lunch room from an other guy that works there. Very Very disappointed Andrew. The delay is actually caused by the Trip Monitor Function. There is a couple of boxes that can be checked or uncheck and to honest, I'm not sure if they were checked by default or if I did it when I bought he car. They were likely checked off when I started out from purchasing it new. First box states "Enable Auto Saving" (can be checked or unchecked) Second line state "Trip Data Base Size" and will give a number in Bytes. Third Lines states "Save Trip Log" (can be checked or unchecked) In my case they were both checked. If you have them checked off in your trip log set up, you will eventually have the same problem as the data base gets so large, it will slow down that function to the point that it becomes unusable. Subaru Customer support doesn't know this and will pay the price when dealer start replacing screens, CPU's, computer chips and SD cards. A very expensive mistake for them. But I guess I'm in Canada so what do I know. Thanks Andrew. The Backup Camera Confirmation Screen can be fixed also. It under Bluetooth Settings. . The terminology is what I think throws everyone off. Once again it is two lines with optional settings. One is referring to the phone Status " on or off" Second is Audio Player Status "On or off" Steps, Silver Info Button, Bluetooth, Detailed Bluetooth Setting, Turn Status to Off on Both options including the portable music device Status is something I think of being always displayed but in this case it is a one time screen at the beginning when you start your car. It no longer shows up. I'm going by memory but its close. Yahoo as we say in Calgary. Go Flames Go. That's our Hockey team for those non sports fans. ![]() I hope this help lots of people. Cheers Crawford |

I don't know how you figured this all out ( especially since you're a Canadian ), but I really appreciate your efforts. I can't wait to try your solutions tomorrow, especially the one for the $@&) black phone connection notice box.
Good work and Go Sharks! ![]() Sent from AutoGuide.com Free App

I made both changes and they seems to work well. I don't see that **** phone is connected black box anymore. However, I do see the "... has failed" box when that happens, which is often. Leave it to Subaru to forget to make the "failed" box an option.

Thanks a lot for this !
I noticed my Nav getting slower and slower as the trip goes on - I was suspecting some sort of memory leak related to maybe the ipod playing as it seemed to get worse when I play music (was thinking maybe the album pictures it displays are leaking) - for me it makes the 3d view unusable/too slow and clicking on nav buttons very slow as well On your instructions below though - Do you mean to uncheck all those boxes ? set a smaller (which ?) value for size ? Where are the Trip settings ? ps: I have a 2013 Outback [edit: found that the size isn't editable - unchecked both boxes, click stop recording, and deleted all logs - my nav seems faster now though let's see on a long trip] Quote:

Yes, uncheck those boxes. If your going on a road trip you can activate them again. I'm going to take another look at it today but I found... (unfortunately when talking about this stuff, my car is in the garage and not in my office so I have to do it by memory) a button/ tab to clear the logs. My GPS is superfast now.
Too Bad Subaru doesn't have specialist on their 1 800 line. These items are complicated and dealing with a guy who on minute is talking to someone about his tires and next about a New Issue NAV system that even if you own it, still keeps you head spinning. They could do better. Great Cars though. Quote:

99 percent of the time I have my phone with me. So the fail box is a good reminder to me that I have forgotten my phone, Stop the Car and go back and get it.
I guess the lesser of two evils.I only notice that box when I went out to test it but wasn't going anywhere so I left my phone in the house. |
