Default Compact, lightweight Tent Topped Camping Trailers

Hi, I'm Scott Chaney the owner of Compact Camping Concepts.

Do you enjoy camping, outdoor activities and the advantages of driving a smaller, fuel-efficient vehicle?

Looking for a tent trailer that won’t strain your vehicle to pull or destroy your gas mileage?

Our Trailer Top Tents are an alternative to traditional tent trailers. A basic trailer & tent setup weighs just 460lbs, comfortably sleeps two people and has 35 cu ft of storage space. Already have a small utility trailer, no problem. We can provide conversion services or components necessary for DIY’ers to do their own.

Complete trailer & tent packages start at $2299

Check us out at www.compactcampingconcepts.com

Thanks,
Scott

PS: I'm the proud of my second Surbaru, a '06 Outback Sport.

Welcome to the site, Scott. Looks like a great alternative to tenting/hauling for our towing challenged cars!

Here is the latest version of our Explorer Box Tent Topped Camping Trailer with one of our DIY MOAB tent units and a revised larger front galley door.

Great idea! Just a side note for everyone - Lifetime products makes a very similar trailer sold through Costco which weighs 900lbs and is a little larger regarding bed space. Though it is a very basic trailer you simply slide the tent out of the trailer bed and you have a basic utility trailer. The small trailer can also haul a single ATV on the deck above the tent. The next step up is the Jumping Jack Tent trailer which is larger and built with Tubular frame vs Angle iron making it much more durable and offers sleeping up to 6 if you feel like packing that many into the tent. This one tips in at 1200lbs empty and will haul two ATV's on the deck or you can slip the tent out of the trailer bed and have a basic Utility trailer to haul crap around the house etc.

I have the Jumping Jack at the very top of my list and once we sell our race boat we will be looking at the jumping jack trailer as soon as we can. The plan being we can top either canoe - kayaks or even small sailboats in the 14ft length range easily with no weight issues with the trailer and still remain in the 1600lbs and under range for total weight. The Jumping Jack Tent rig has also proven to be a favorite for the hard core off road types given its tubular frame holds up to the off road abuse much better than the angle iron type trailers.

Costco I think has the small rig at $2900 and The Jumping Jack is right around $5000 with an option or two added. Both dirt cheap compared to the angle iron - pressed wood junk being sold by the large name brand tent trailer makers which are also very heavy.

subiesailor, the Lifetime trailers have a different target customer than an Explorer Box. For an Explorer Box, lightweight means 400 lbs and compact means thinking and camping more like a backpacker. Tent Unit design is a another difference, just fold it open, no assembly required. Also no unpacking necessary to go to bed.

Don't get me wrong, if you take a ton of gear or ATVs with you camping, a Jumping Jack trailer is a good trailer. An Explorer Box and a Lifetime trailer just have different design objectives.
