Average Max. Mileage/ Lifespan?

Hi All-Newbie Here,

Need you kind help. BOTH of my vehicles have become dangerous to drive. Need info fast. Want a Subaru.

What is the average life expectancy of an Outback?
Av. Miles before serious problems happen?

Cost of engine replacement?

Thanks! I' m looking for lowest poss miles and newest poss in budget. Feel this car is a good investment, but need to know above....

There are no absolutes.

What are you looking at? A 1998 with 200k miles is much closer to the end of its service life than a 2009 with 25k.

What is your budget?

2003 Outback wagon: "Kaylee". 146,000 and counting.
Basics: Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5W30, PureOne oil filter, Fram air filter, Valvoline Maxlife Dex/Merc ATF, Mobil 1 75W90, Michelin Primacy MXV4.
Mods: 2004 Forester XT shift knob, Fumoto oil drain valve, Phillips VisionPlus low beams, Phillips HIR1 high beam upgrade, Nokya Hyper Yellow 2500K fog lights.

Also: More rust than I care to think about.

Hi,
You are too kind to reply. Because boy-oh-boy do I need help. One vehicle died yesterday. The other--one I've babied w/ low mileage--needs more engine work all of a sudden than it's worth. So we are desperate.

We'd like to spend around $10k so we don't have to finance. However, we could go up to $15k. And there seems to be a world of difference between those two. However, we will soon need two cars, and paying $15k squashes that for awhile...

I don't want to get another vehicle that will need tons of work and be unreliable.

I'm looking at Outbacks, Foresters, Legacys, Imprezas (and other brands, tho I wanna Subie)

What is the point where in mileage an Outback starts to need work--would you say. And what is the av. max miles before major work is needed? And lastly, any idea how much for a new/refurbished engine?

I wanna not go through where I'm at again.

Thanks alot for your help!

P.S. Anywhere else I should post question? Looking to get info and buy ASAP.
