Default Radio Antenna

I have a 2003 Outback, and the radio antenna is built into the side rear glass window. My radio reception is TERRIBLE, and I can't hear nearly as many stations as I could in my '96 Legacy with an external antenna. Is it possible to install an external antenna on my car? I have a Pioneer aftermarket stereo deck in the car. Any advice would be welcome!

It might be possible, but I doubt the poor reception is because of the window antenna. It's more likely that the printed "wire" in the window has been scratched and broken (but can be fixed with a window defogger repair kit), or the antenna amplifier, which is normally powered through the stock radio antenna circuit, isn't working, perhaps because the Pioneer doesn't provide for this. Did you just install the Pioneer radio?

I had the Pioneer deck in my older subaru, and the reception was fine. I'll check to see if the window antenna is intact. Thanks
