Default Subaru Synthetic Oil

Inspected a quart bottle of the new Subaru Synthetic oil at the dealer's parts counter yesterday. Surprise!! It's not rated. No API rating of SM (or the new SN) and no ILSAC rating of e.g. ACEA A1 or A3.

NOTHING!!

Parts man said no one had noticed this and he should make an inquiry of SOA.

Additionally the bottle said "Made in the USA" by Indemitsu so it looks like Indemitsu has contracted out the formulation to an American refiner.

Interesting. I wonder if SIA has been using their products for factory fill, and if so, for how long . . . Idemitsu U.S. is also Indiana-based . . .

Might also explain the source of Subaru Type HP ATF. . . .

Company Info : Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. & Idemitsu Lubricants America Corporation at Idemitsu Racing Oil

I'd guess it's an ILSAC "GF-5" product, since that's the primary governing body for Japanese vehicle Manufacturers....

From the dealer means "expensive". I use Rotella T6 Synthetic 5w-40. Great oil, great price. I put alot of highway miles on my baby so she get's the best I can give her.
