Ok, here's the background. My fiancee and I will be moving to Chicago after we get married this spring. We're taking her car with us, the 1996 Outback. By the way her current tires [Uniroyal Tigerpaws...meh] are wearing, Solstice will need new rubber before next winter. In Chicago studded winter tires are not legal, so that axes me buying a set of winter tires and running the Uniroyals completely down. My dilema is this:
Goodyear Triple Treads Really great tires for these cars as far as I have read. Good in wet and dry as well as decent in snow and ice, as far as all-season tires are concerned. So far, I've seen them for about $95 per tire. Most likely leaning towards this to replace the Uniroyals. Nokian WR From what I can tell, one of the best all-season tires on the market, hands down. Decent in wet and dry and very good snow and ice traction. I can't find them under $120 per tires though, and that's really more than I can afford if I can avoid it. I'd like these but there are 2 things that make me nervous about them. My concerns are reading that they seem to wear faster than the TT's and seem to wear fast in warmer temperatures. We're expecting everything from 0 degree winters to 90 degree summers, although we won't be driving as much as we do now living in a small city. Are the Nokians worth the extra $30 per tire and would the hot summer pavement kill them? Anyone run the Nokians in a warmer climate? |

Goodyears will last a lot longer. You'll be fine with them in Chicago. If you haven't tried the search fuction yet, try it, there's a lot on these two tires lately.

Can't say about the Nokians, but the TT are working very well for me. I have a set on my OBW and had then on my Mitz VR4. I haven't felt the need to put on "winter" tires because these seem to do as will if not better at times than studs. But in the end, it all depends how you drive

I don't have any experience with the TT tires, since I started using Nokian tires four years ago I haven't considered putting any other brand on my vehicles. I consider the WR to be the best non-dedicated tire available, I'll vouch for that tire forever.
