I was just wondering what the biggest tires i can fit under my 4 cylinder 02 Outback wagon are i know i cant go much bigger than stock 225/60 but anything to gain any clearance would be nice.
I am considering getting a small suspension lift eventually but for now i just need some new tires my Potenza G009 are ready to come off. My car will see very little snow but i do travel a lot so id like to be prepared for whatever. Oh so i'm pretty sure this is my first post so, hello everybody.

![]() Welcome to the forum! Looks like your car is identical to mine. I am running 215/65/16. They are perfect, with no rubbing. These aren't much bigger, if at all, but they're a little higher profile, so they do take the bumps slightly better.

Yep, I am running a set of General Grabber AT2s to handle whatever weather & terrain is thrown at me up here.
These tires are loud, the sidewalls will roll over if you corner too hard, and they're not great for gas mileage. However, for pure traction in all kinds of circumstances, they're pretty much unbeatable.

Interestingly, the standard tyres on the same year Outback in Australia was 215/60R16. Sidewall height of 129mm. 215/60 R16 95h G-040 YOKOHAMA's
koala's 225/60, have a sidewall height of 135mm, and obsolete's 215/65/16, have a sidewall height of 140mm (5mm or 0.2" the diff) then there are tread differences but still I would like what obsoletes tyres on my car!

thats good thread we need more info i am planing to run tires that are 27.3" in diameter so i will update if/when i will get them.
stock tires in US were 225/60/16 - 26.6" diameter stock tires in australia were 215/60/16 - 26.2" diameter looks like 215/65/16 fits fine with 27.0" diameter (thanks obsolete) thats a start but if anyone has tried different size tires please let us know so we can update the list. we are looking at tire overall diameter so wheel size does not matter but if you run aftermarket rims please let us know the offset since it is a factor in tire rubing cheers ziggy |

ggvfr form Australia has fitted Yokohama G011 A/T +11's in a 215/65-16 to fit to 16" steel Forester rims.
I know the Australian Outbacks sit at a different height to the US Outbacks as stock car it its a bit of a guide any way.
