Default Nokian WR pressure

On my tires it says max 51 psi, the door jam says lower like 29, and 31. Is there a sweet spot in the middle? What is the best pressure for the tires?

The max tire pressure is the highest pressure you can have in the tire without damaging it. It's the NEVER EXCEED pressure, not a safe pressure on a car. And, anything significantly over the recommended pressure can mean poor handling, and loss of control on slick roads.

The max pressure on the tire wall is indeed the max 'safe' pressure for that tire.

it's however not the best pressure for your car !

car manufacturers design their cars and suspension to work optimal with a specific amount of air in the tire.
So look in the manual that came with your car and run the pressure that subaru recommends.

i like the feel of mine at 34f/32r. if i'm going to be driving strictly on pavement i will go 36/34, but that gets a little squirrelly on dirt or gravel.

i tend to drive more aggressively on unpaved roads, so i keep the pressure a little lower in case i see some dirt i want to try.
