I needed to get my Winterforces off and figured I may as well get a second set of wheels. Tire rack didn't offer much in my price bracket and so I turned to Craigslist and found a set of WRX rims with Toyo Versado LX tires. $450 for the set. The tires are only ~2000 miles old, so really it's like I got the rims for free. But... one problem... the rubber is 205/55/16 rather than the stock 225/60/16.
So here she is wearing her new shoes. It definitely looks a little silly , but it's only for 6 months out of the year (if we're lucky... this is Rochester we're talking about). The car is definitely about 2" lower now... so that feels quite strange.According to everybody's favorite tire calculator, this makes my speedo read 6.6% faster than actual speed. Thankfully my GPS is on hand to tell me how fast I'm really going. Additionally, my ODO is going to read 6.6% higher, so I'm going to have to manually adjust my MPG calculations so they won't be totally out of whack (though it'd certainly be nice to see a 6.6% improvement in fuel economy)! I just bought a house so I'm quite likely going to be driving this car until she dies, so I'm not really worried about how a rapidly increasing odometer will affect her resale value (she's nearing 120k already anyway). One question... what is the protocol for storing tires + rims? Should I deflate them a bit?

Welcome to the WRX wheel club. Those smaller Impreza sized tires would drive me insane, how much life do you think you have left in them?

I dunno... probably at least 40,000 miles!
And if I only use them 6 months out of the year... that should last me close to 5 years. :-/ I suppose I could try to sell the rubber on Craigslist and if it sells, I'll throw the winterforces back on while I shop for some General Altimax or something similar to throw on the WRX rims.

![]() The '02 in my profile had brand new 205/60/16 GYTT's on it when we bought it back in August. They probably have close to 25,000 miles and still look new. However I can tell when I drive it vs. my '00 as it is much lower. |
