How do I choose between these two when they are the same price?
Michelin ride better and last longer, Nokians have better winter traction. Dang!

The Nokian tires don't ride as well or last as long? I don't know about the ride but it would be negligible and I can almost guarantee that they'd last just as long if not longer. Just sayin'

I put a set of Primacy MXV-4's on my '05 Outback last December and do not regret it. I have no experience with the other tires you mention but have no problem recommending the Primacy's

I've had the goodyear assurance triple thread on my 01 and wife's 98 accords. They are great in ice, snow and rain. They are a "T" rated 80,000 mile tire. I would like to put them on my outback when these wear out. Any thoughts?

I have read mixed reviews of summer handling on the WRG2s, some say fine and some say they give up dry handling.

Well, as much as I would rather have the Nokians for Chicago winters, I think I'll be going with the Michelins instead. The $70 rebate plus 0% interest for 6 months at Discount Tire is enough to make quite a difference.
If $100 was not such a significant amount of money right now I'd be going with the Nokians. Stupid having to put tires on a credit card, I hate being broke.

I ran Nokians WR on my impreza for about 3 years and got 110,000 km (hot summer, winter). It was an awesome tire for winter. Way better than all seasons. It's got the Triangle emblem for severe winter. But of course it's a trade off from real winter tires. AWD and Nokians...you're almost invincible... Me and my co-workers were impress with their winter performance as well as summer, we got the WRG2s. Sadly, I had to give up that car...and I'm now trying to wear off my continentals on my sweet 2011 Outback. I'm going with the WRG2 after the contis.
Yes, go with the Nokians as they last crazy long!!!....even in the hot summer...I was skeptical at first but they warranty it at 100,000 km. |
