Default Tire Question

I've got ~ 10,000 miles on a new set (4) of Triple Treads. This morning when I started the car the TPMS light went off, so I checked the tires. One was low and on further inspection I disovered a nail running through the tire.

I'm going to my tire guy tomorrow morning to see my options. If my tire has to be replaced, is it possible to only have to buy 1 tire? I recall reading someplace that the AWD system is designed to run with all tires evenly worn. Will one new tire (vs. 3 w/10k miles) damage the car?

Thanks

Impossible to say without knowing how much wear occurred in those 10,000 miles. They'll probably be able to repair a simple puncture. If not, get the three tires measured and compared to a new one. If there's a difference, ask if they can shave down the new tire before installation.

10k miles is probably skirting the line. The only real way to tell is to measure the circumfurence of your old tires and compare them to the circumference to the new tire. It has to be within...1/4" I believe. Someone here can probably give the figure if I'm wrong.

Have the tire shop measure it. Don't tell them what the limit is so they wont fudge the number to sell more tires. Just tell them you'd like for them to measure the circumference of the tire to see how different they are and make the call yourself.

If it is not fixable I'd have the tire shop measure the other 3 and shave the new 1 to match. Most places will do that.
