I am having terrible noise problems with mine on my 2008 XT wagon. They are properly balanced and I am running recommended pressure. When dring the car from inside it sounds like I'm driving a 4x4 with huge knobby tires on it. Looking at the tires they look fine with no cupping and a nice even pattern on them. i have about 8000 mi on them and they were rotated once. Any one have any ideas as to why so much noise?

The "knobby tires" or "winter tire" tread sound can also be from a wheel bearing. I had a low growl, or purring sound which I had attributed for a long time to the oem Bridgestone RE92s. But I always found it strange, as the car was much quieter when new. Eventually had the dealer mechanic check it out about a month ago and the LR hub was the culprit.

The hubs are covered by the 5yr/60k miles warranty, so if you're still in there, have it checked.

Here's a recent thread on the topic: Wheel Bearing gone at 23,000 miles??

Thanks for that info. I guess a trip to the dealer is in hand. Only have 40k on the car. I hope thats what the problem is cause the noise is quite annoying and I hope the dealer in competent enough to diagnose it instead of telling me my new tires are bad .

Not sure about this being tire noise. I have 25k on mine and they are still as quiet as the day I put them on.

Thanks for your help guys. I dropped off my car on Thursday and they replaced the LR hub/bearing assembly under warranty and the car is as quiet as the day I got it. Just pissed I waited so long to bring it in

I am convinced; I'll be getting the Michelins! I have '09 (was CPO in November '09 with 4500 miles). The first winter/year, I did not drive my normal, for a variety of reasons, and have 26K now. The Potenzas are the worst tires I ever remember in my half century of driving many different vehicles. I will never endorse them. I feel they will not have adequate tread to pass the inspection soon, but my inspection month is October.
I have been attempting research for all-seasons. I saw them in BJ's Warehouse for $125 plus $15 for mounting, on a busy Sunday with one person working at an installation. I'll check out some other place including nearby Tire Warehouse.

Thanks for all the comments posted here.

15,000 mile update:

Wear is still great so far, I'm guessing 8/32 or so...very minor. Looking forward to seeing them perform this winter. Dry and wet traction are still superb. Still keeping them 32-35F/30-33R in pressure.

I did buy them at a local tire business, and made the $70 rebate program - Michelin mailed a gift card. I am very happy with them, both dry & wet conditions. Had a little snow but not enough to make determination. Only added 3K miles.
Tire installer suggested pressure that's on the door panel!

Current miles on tires: 20,000 or so.

No significant changes to report. Tread wear is quite good, little past due for a rotation.

Still a great highway tire. Winter was mild this year, so they saw very little snow. Dealt fine with everything but icy slush, same as ever.
