Actually those circumferential grooves are designed to evacuate water. They INCREASE rain traction.

I have a 2001 Outback Wagon Ltd (now with 212,000 miles!) that came with MXV4 Primacy's and have put 9,000 miles over the last year - and I can't tell any discernible wear on the tires. They are very quiet and ride nice...but they are a little soft in the corners. That's to be expected...

re: complaints about rain traction, i have had no issues whatsoever. matter of fact, i drove home from KY to FL in the tail end of the winter storm and had no issues. the drive included rain, sleet, snow and cross winds up to 30 mph. i was pretty much doing 80 mph the whole time and always felt firmly in contact with the road.

i think it's important to note that wet roads are most slippery at the very start of a rain event, as all the dirt, oil, etc. on the road is freshly wet (and therefore lubricated) and yet to be "rinsed" off the surface of the asphalt. just a combination public service announcement and possible explanation for those that have had traction issues.

I'm taking the plunge and giving the mxv4's a shot. Putting them on tomorrow (mounted, balanced and tax) for $882. Hope these are worth the cost!!

Well, since I have never had the alignment checked, I thought that now would be a good time since I was putting on $830 worth of tires...so grand total was $982. Note that only one wheel was out of alignment. I'll try and update as I rack up the miles.

33,000 mile update

Had the tires rotated and balanced (Chicago roads seem to take those stick on wheel weights right off for some reason...) today. Remaining tread was 8/32's all the way around.

Looks like I am getting about 1/32 of wear per about 10k miles run, so I'm hoping for another 40-50k miles out of these.

Otherwise, nothing new to report about them. Still run them about 35F/34R.

Next time clean the wheels with straight soap and water (no wax), it will make fore a cleaner surface for the weights to stick on.

I'm not sure JB Weld and the Force could keep them on with our lovely roads.
