HI,
I have spent the last few days researching which tire to put on my '12OB. I already have a flat from my stock tires. I am leaning towards getting the winter/summer tire combo. With the Nokian WRG2's as my winter tire which I will purchase next fall. I am planning on getting one of the two tires above for my main summer driving tire. I live in SoCal so I don't drive in snow but when it snows in the mountains or Mammoth is getting dumped on - I am usually beating a path to winter wonderland. That being said, I have heard few people mention the CS4's. I just put the T rated ones on my Toyota Sienna and am quite happy with them. However, people seemed to be fired up about the Michelin's. What is your take on these two tires?

No input on the Coopers.
Love my MXV4. Have not quite 20,000 miles on them, barely any wear. Very nice comfortable interstate cruising tire. If you drive like a sane individual who any any understanding of how physics work and drive accordingly, you can't really get them to hydroplane. They also have a $70 off 4 rebate right now.

I've heard the Coopers are good bang-for-your-buck all-seasons, but the Primacy MXV4 is king (you pay for it though). My wife's 2000 Cavalier could handle a few inches of snow in the Primacies without too much trouble, and I've heard even better things when they're on an Outback.
Good call on the WRG2s as well...AWD helps you go in the snow, but winter tires also help you turn and stop. Plus, California will stop people from going up the mountains in the snow depending on how bad the conditions are, and AWD with snows will get you past the second level (and I seem to recall them generally closing roads more often than going to the third level). Hope this helps....now go eat some In-N-Out for me. I miss those burgers now that I'm in New Hampshire.... |

+1 on the Cooper CS4 V rated. I got 52k out of my first set. Now 10K into my second. Very happy with them. I love Michelin's. Have had many sets on other cars, but for the $$, the Cooper's are great.

Thanks everyone. Ended up getting the CS4's. They are very quiet and the ride seems to be improved. I still might the WRG2's for winter driving next season. I would imagine more snow is in store for us next year. I paid $140 each for 225/60/r17 in SoCal.

Have Cooper CS4 Touring V-rated on my 2008 Outback 2.5 base. Tires ride well, but wear very badly. Have less than 25,000 miles on them and they are about done. I had great success with Cooper Discoverers on my Duramax K2500HD, and I like buying American (Goodyear, and Cooper are the only American companies left that still produce tires in U.S.A.).
It is a fight to get Gerald's Tires of Charleston, SC/Cooper to stand behind the 60,000 mile warranty. I plan on not fighting, and not buying more tires from Gerald's or Cooper. I will be purchasing Michelin Primacy MXV4s. |
