Default Are you in the PNW with an OUTBACK? Say so here!

I have noticed an every growing group of Subaruoutback.org members that are in the Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Perhaps the Vancouver, B.C. area. (I think we can even include Montana if we must!)

1. Roughly where are you from
(exam: I am from "North Seattle" area)

2. What is it you do with your outback, or what was your reason for choosing your car?
(Exam: for me, needed a new car for an expanding family and we ski and adventure a bunch. Besides, subarus are in my blood)

Glad to see so many locals!

Oh, and if you got it, post a picture of your car too!

Holla,

I live in the San Juan Islands (Orcas) these days and have a 97 LOB with a few modest mods.

These days I live very close to work so I ride my mt. bike down our gravel road and am at work in less than 3 mins... unless I take a detour through the mt bike course, then I call in on the radio that I'll be a "little" late

What I do in the subie these days is island driving. There are two stretches on the island with 40 mph zones. Everything else is 35, 25 or 20

There are some dirt roads but nothing to write home about.

I get off island once a month ($30 ferry ticket). Then I can really drive on I-5 or up in the mountains.

Starkiller,

your football team (way back in high school) always crushed mine (MLT), that is assuming you have always been in lynnwood!

As far as attaching the pic... the easiest way for you to post pictures is to use www.photobucket.com, upload your pictures to the site, and then copy and paste the bottom link that says "[IMG]" in it into the text window. If your still lost, have a look under forum>gallery>photo posting instructions, which has some illustrations. The attach feature requires you to edit your photograph to be smaller in size using a photo edit program.

Subhuman,

living out on the island, I can appreciate that. Your not by chance one of the hippy pot making (as in... pottery) folks happily living in isolation?
Sure is a nice area out there, you can mountain bike, rock climb, raise alpacas, canoe/kayak, swim-not! I bet you even know the name of a few of the Orcas that swim by!

I wonder in an area as small as an island, do the cops know you by name and car? Nothing like that small town feel!

I live in Corvallis Oregon (Go beavers) and have an 05 OB LLBean. We we wanted a new rig to replace the crappy American mini vans that we've bought (85 and 88 astros,94 pontiac trnsport). They literally began to fall apart after 120,000 miles even after keeping them up really well. Our oldest son is 6'6"-320 # and he went off to college so we figured we were ready for a smaller and more efficient rig. We do alot of winter activities and wanted to get up to the slopes with ease. The first time I looked at and drove the bean I was floored. what actually sold me was how solid the thump was when I closed the door, It was so freakin solid! We're at 13000 K now and I still Just absolutely adore it.

We moved to the island a few months ago as my wife took up a new position. My work is flexible and I can pretty much go anywhere as some at SOB already know (ie NY to OR to WA in less than a year).

We plan to stay until the kids go to college (5 or less years) then we'll move abroad.

I've been and lived in more isolated places but yes there is that small "town" feel here on the island and you do get to know all (5) cops by name and they you.

I can live just about anywhere but I do love the big city and miss NY a lot.

Here is the subie taken moments ago with the cam.

Well, I am in Missoula, Montana. I am on my third outback in 3 years. Had a 96, put 18K on it in 7 months then subsiquently hit a deer at 85 MPH. Car was totalled so I bought a 98 with the money from insurance. Drove it 20K in about a year, and have now upgraded to an 04 OBW.

I bought the car mainly because of my complete lack of snow driving experience. I am originally from central Florida, and had never been through a real winter until last year, so I figured I needed all the help I could get, and knew my 2WD Chevy pickup was not the vehicle to drive around in the winter. Also bought the car cause it will go a lot place most cars won't, and it has a lot of room for people, pets, and other stuff.

Attached is picture of the GMC pickup, 98 OBW, and 04 OBW.

Yea! MT counts! It's not like an extra 300-500 miles makes much diff to us anyway I'm ~350 miles from rockhopjohn in Laurel, MT...a small railroad & refinery town about 15 miles from Billings. I've only been in Laurel 2 years since I graduated and got a real(ish) job. Before that, I lived in Bozeman going to school for 5 years and before that, I lived in Missoula for 8 years...so I'm going on 15 years in Montana this fall, here since I was 10 yrs old, hence my claim to be a "Montana Native" although I've lived in lotsa different places with my divorced & remarried parents over summers/winters including San Diego, CA; Omaha, NE; Laramie, WY; NY, NY; and Norwalk & Weston, CT. My goal is actually to move further west with my next Job, but we'll see. I want to go to Idaho, UT, WA or OR...even CA is an option, but I would prefer to be further north.

This is a pic of my old '97 in Arizona if you can believe it...who knew those guys had snow?! Some spring break that turned out to be. My current car looks identical to Ace's above (minus his new scratches /cackle ).

Default I'm in N. Seattle (Not just an example)

Got my '06 OB XT LTD 5M a week ago @ Carter Subaru. Just filled my tank today for the first time. So far the car is great, can't wait until I cross the 1K mile threshhold.
Anyone want to buy a '98 4Runner SR5 5M?
Cheers,
Chris

I live in Vancouver Washington. But I'm sure I've said that recently in other posts. I bought my car for reliability. I don't drive many miles as a rule, but when I need to drive, the car has to be ready!
Generally I don't have any loyalty to a particular car brand because I've had so many different cars, American, Japanese, German, and I don't think I've put 50,000 miles on anything. Mostly I bought Subaru because of the good luck my in-laws have had. My mother in-law currently has an 04 WRX. The perfect car for a woman of 82.
My current cars are a 1999 Mustang Cobra Convertible, 1968 Chevrolet elCamino(ready for restoration), and my Outback. I'll post some photos in the following gallery. http://moongypsy.atpic.com
Please feel free to look at the other galleries too.
